The power of drop-ins
For improving teaching & staff culture
Hey 👋
Hope you’re looking after yourself. This week, my second ever snacks video… enjoy!
Big idea 🍉
🎓 For more, check out this study on the impact of drop-ins in England and this working paper on the effects of drop-ins in US schools.

Little updates 🥕
Study exploring student goal-setting → finds it can increase student effort, but doesn't guarantee better results (as the goals also need to be effective).
Paper exploring retrieval practice for complex material → suggests it continues to be effective for both knowledge retention and transfer.
Review of ‘science of early years’ training → finds it boosts educators knowledge and confidence, but not always student learning (because effective PD needs a variety of essential ingredients).
Report examining the effects of longer school days → suggests that adding an extra hour each week slightly boosts learning (with greatest improvements for language and reading at secondary).

Remember: you’re no good to anyone unless you’re good to yourself.
